southern cornbread dressing

Ingredients

•     BASIC CORNBREAD RECIPE
•     ¾ cup buttermilk
•     2 eggs
•      2 Tablespoon vegetable oil
•     1 cup self-rising cornmeal
•     ½ cup self-rising flour
•      SOUTHERN DRESSING RECIPE
•     Cornbread (9x9 inch pan) (
•     3 pieces of toast
•     1 shredded chicken breast
•     1 cup of celery, diced (about 3 stalks)
•     1 cup onions, diced (about half of a large onion)
•     1 cup of green bell peppers diced (about 1 medium green bell pepper. 
•     Seasonings (poultry seasonings, sage, black pepper, ) 
•     2 eggs
•     3-4 cups of chicken or turkey broth

   
Instructions

1.     Firstly, Preheat the oven to 350 c
2.    stir together  In a bowl,  the cornmeal & flour.
3.     Add in eggs & oil  the buttermilk, . Stir until combined.
4.     Pour into a greased,iron skillet,  shallow baking dish . Bake until set  for about 20-25 minutes . Let cool.
5.      in a large bow , When the  cornbread has cooled, break it up, along with the toast.
6.      in a little bit of butter , Saute onions, celery and green bell peppers until tender.
7.    After that,  Add  the sautéed veggies the shredded chicken into the cornbread mixture. to really mix it up good Use your hands .
8.     Add in some spices. I put the broth in if it needs it.   I usually start with a teaspoon of each and then add more after , Mix it up well.
9.     Next add in the broth a little at once. Add in just enough to make it thick & kinda soupy. Stir it up.
10.     add more spices as you want , If it needs more spices add them in here.  
11.      go ahead and stir in the eggs When you are content with the taste, .
12.     Pour into a buttered 9 X 13 casserole pan.
13.     Bake for until set for  forty-five mins .
